What Does It Take To Be Successful?
What does it take to be successful in life? While goal setting and strategy are both important when it comes to achieving your dreams, there is one fundamental thing you can do to shape your future for the better – create the right habits.
The importance of behavioural psychology.
We all have at least one bad habit. Whether it be eating chocolate every day, drinking too much wine or smoking like a chimney, we know it’s going to do us damage in the long run.
Some bad habits aren’t so obvious, yet they affect us just the same. Believing you can’t afford a house, or you’ll never get ahead will mean just that – after all, how could you achieve anything beyond what you think is possible?
The poor habit.
According to Nathan, one of the fundamental differences between the wealthy and the poor is mindset.
The wealthy focus on improving their capital position and creating passive income streams while the poor focus on work-based income and saving.
Thinking you have to work and save to get ahead is a limiting habit. Selling your time for a wage keeps you in a box. But, if you can think outside the square to create wealth, you won’t be limited by the ‘poor’ habit and consumed by the daily grind for your working life.
Are you victim or architect?
The good news is that even though habits seem like second nature, we can change them for the better. Instead of being a victim to all those negative habits that are holding you back, you can choose to be an architect of your habits and be successful to make your dreams come true.
Take a look at your current habits. Are they helping you to achieve your goals?
You may have a spending habit that is preventing you from saving a deposit, or a partying habit that is stopping you from staying focused.
You may think there is no time to take action because you work 40 hours a week – but what do you do in your leisure time?
Being successful is not just about making money, saving money or investing money – it’s about how you spend your time and how you see the world. It’s about knowing that anything is possible with the right mindset and a whole heap of elbow grease. And, it’s about making whatever changes are necessary to improve your chances of success.
How to form good habits.
Before you can become an architect of your habits, you need to identify the ones you have fallen victim to.
Once you know what habits are holding you back, make a conscious decision to reverse them. Write down some positive habits that will help you to achieve your goals and put these in places where you will see them throughout the day. Affirm to yourself that you are living these changed habits and that this will be the seed for you to be successful.
